Welcome fellow traveller, pull up a chair as Sandy Brushtail introduces Brian Jacques' anthro book series set in medieval times.
I propose to host a short introductory lecture/talk about Brian Jacques' long running novel series centred around the titular Redwall Abbey. Set in pseudo medieval times, the first book written for the series sees the mouse Matthias in a quest to find a legendary sword to help in the fight against the rat warlord Cluny the Scourge. I hope to go over the basic themes such as the different species featured, re-occurring themes/tropes, key locales, more information about the society as a whole and how to join.
The society was an idea I had to raise awareness for a book series that set me on the path to the furry fandom and as a modern replacement for the now inactive "Redwall Reader's Club."
I have been active in the Furry Fandom for over 15 years, I've been meaning to do a talk/lecture for a while and seeing as Redwall was what got me into the fandom, I'd like to see more members of our community be more aware of these books. After Gamepopper made his series of talks about the history of the furry fandom in the UK, I approached him with this idea and he said I should give it a try. Seeing as it would be unlikely that ConFuzzled would "green light" an event like this, I thought I'd have better luck proposing to ScotiaCon. The Society itself would be a largely online community - I'm planning a members only discord server as well as social media profiles - members would also get a R.A.S. Member lanyard too.
Seeing as the news media has "adopted" the name Redwall to mean Northern English counties that always vote for the Labour party, I want to show that the name Redwall has another meaning. I hope to grow the society to expand beyond the furry con scene and possibly delivering talks at local literature festivals in the future.
